Optical and Infrared Astronomical Instrumentation
for Modern Telescopes - Brazilian Workshop
Angra dos Reis, - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
November 16-20, 2003
Overview
The workshop was focused on the optical and infrared instruments for large and medium class telescopes, giving special attention on the projects for Gemini Observatory and SOAR Telescope. Contributions concerning instrumentation for other telescopes are welcomed. Besides to the instrumentation presentations, the workshop hold contributions about the science with these telescopes and the next instruments generation. This allowed the interaction between science and instrumentation to set the tendencies for the future instrumentation development to obtain the high quality data needed to answer important open questions in many astronomy areas.
The meeting was organized into invited talks about themes of general interest, oral
presentations about more specific instrumentation topics, and poster sections for specific
instrumentation topics and the achieved and planed science for these new generation
instruments.
Location
The meeting was held in the Hotel do Bosque at Angra dos Reis, 2 hours from Rio de Janeiro. The location is easily accessible to a large fraction of the Brazilian astronomical community and to the foreign colleagues that arrived at the Rio de Janeiro International Airport.
