The most employed technique to analyse such data is to cross correlate the observe spectrum with a template star, but at low to moderate S/N, the cross correlation is very sensitive to the spectral type of the template star. Using a combination of templates or testing different spectral types is the best approach, but opposite to what is seen in the optical where a large number of libraries spanning a range of spectral types exists, in the near-IR at R=6000 there are very little if any datasets available. This poster presents the results of a 2006B "poor weather" programme, when we observed with the GNIRS IFU a good sized sample of spectral template stars at moderate S/N (~50-60), and R=5900 resolution for the region including the CO 2.3-2.4μ overtone bands. The sample includes dwarfs, giants and sub-giants with spectral types from G to M. The similarity between GNIRS and NIFS spectral resolutions brings the added benefit that the dataset is also be useful for the NIFS PIs doing the same kind of work. The raw data have been made public at the Gemini Science Archive, and the processed spectra are now being made available to the general public through the Gemini website. |
