Title: Probing Circumstellar Disks in the Mid-IR

Co-authors' Institutions: (Same as Principle author) University of Florida

Abstract:

I give an overview of results on primordial and debris disks observed with T-ReCS and Michelle. These include disks around Herbig stars and young debris disks around A stars. Images of several Herbig-star disks are consistent with detection of flaring. We describe observations that suggest we are seeing the effects of catastrophic collisions of bodies hundreds of kilometers in size or larger. I will also comment on alternative interpretations. Finally, we describe observations of a debris disk for which we determine directly a size comparable to that of our Solar System?s asteroid belt. This observation appears to be the first ever resolution of an exosolar asteroid belt.
