Title: THE CONTENTS OF ECLIPSING BINARIES AMONG THE VARIABLE STARS IN THE OGLE EXPERIMENT

Co-author: F. J. Jablonski and Julio Cesar Tello Galves

Abstract:

The Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment (OGLE) was conceived to search for microlensing events caused by the presence of massive compact objects in the direction of dense star fields such as in the galactic bulge. A by-product of the survey is a catalog of ~ 220 thousand variable or candidates to variable stars. We examined all these I-band light curves searching for eclipsing binaries (EB). They number approximately 10 thousand. In this work, we discuss the procedures to increase the efficiency of the search, the relative proportions of different types of EB and interesting cases for spectroscopic follow-up in large telescopes.
