Title: The Supernova Legacy Survey

Abstract

The Supernova legacy survey is a 5-year survey aimed at determining the nature of Dark Energy with a sample of about 500 distant Type Ia Supernovae. The survey is now over half way through and has discovered more than 300 spectroscopically-confirmed Type Ia SNe. Gemini spectroscopy with GMOS plays a crucial role in measuring redshifts and determining supernova types for the faintest candidates. Here we summarise the status of SNLS and show how the GMOS spectra are being used for statistical tests for evolution in the Type Ia supernova population with redshift.
