Title: New data on Sagittarius northern arm as seen by the QUEST variability survey

Abstract:

We have used 56 hours of GEMINI data to study the Sagittarius northern arm as detected by the QUEST variability survey. The QUEST survey provides us with the RR Lyrae candidates suspected to belong to the Sgr. Dwarf galaxy northern tidal arm. We performed the spectroscopic follow up of the structure to asees its radial velocity and metallicity, as well as its spread in both quantities and its spatial distribution within the surveyed area. We present the results from such a study where over half the sample was observed with GEMINI and the other half with VLT.

This work is done in collaboration with the Yale University (USA) and the CIDA institute (Venezuela) where the QUEST telescope is located. This collaboration supported by Fundacion Andes as part of joint PhD program between the university of Yale and Universidad de Chile.
