Title: The Mikly Way spiral structure based on spectrophotometric distances

Abstract:

We present spectroscopic paralax distances to Galactic Giant HII regions, based on K-band spectrofotometry. In all cases, our measurements indicate much smaller distances than those based on kinemactic distances based on radio recombination lines. The discrpancies aren't explained by non-rotational velocities that affect the kinematic distances. Our main results indicate a lower SFR than previously believed and a universal IMF slope close to the Salpeter value.
