Título: In pursuit of the hot companion of Eta Carinae

Resumo: In this proposal we intend to obtain near-infrared spectra of Eta Car and its ejecta, which are the closest example of those giant eruptions occurring in massive stars. By analyzing the stellar spectrum reflected in the ejecta and the central star spectrum we aim to constrain the influence of the secondary star in the properties of the system, and its role in the giant outburts as well. Using OSIRIS+SOAR might be a unique chance to monitor the upcoming 2009.0 event with an adequate time sampling. Therefore, as we intend to begin an Eta Car monitoring program on SOAR, we are re-submitting essentially the same proposal as the previous time-awarded proposal submitted for 2007A (SO-2007A-015).
