Título: Searching for the orbital period of the ultracompact binary star 2S 0918-549

Resumo: Ultracompact binaries are systems in which the donor stars are He/C degenerates (white dwarfs) and the accreting star is a white dwarf or a neutron star. They usually have orbital periods of less than 10 minutes. The X-Ray source 2S 0918-549, presumed to be an ultracompact binary, is a galactic low mass X-ray binary whose orbital period is yet unkown. We propose to search for the orbital period of this system with the SOAR telescope, using the SOAR imager.
