Título: The comprehensive formation and evolution history of the outermost regions of the Large Magellanic Cloud as shown by its star cluster population

Resumo: SOAR/SAMI BVI imaging for a sample of star clusters (SCs) located in the outer disk of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) is proposed to estimate SC properties (structural parameters, age, reddening, distance, metallicity, mass, binary frequency) on an homogeneous basis, as part of a long-term programme to address the following key issues: 1) comprehensively trace the age distribution of SCs in the outskirts of the LMC and then to compare it to the age distribution of field stars in order to search for a possible common origin; 2) extend the sample of well-studied low surface brightness SCs, in order to quantify the significance of the apparent absence of old, low surface brightness SCs in the LMC; 3) derive the SC mass distribution function and their dissolution history to examine the link between SC dissolution and tidal interactions with the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) and the Milky Way; 4) widely explore the structural parameters of the outermost LMC SCs in order to look for evidence of dynamical effects; 5) provide the astronomical community with high quality SC data.
