Título: A Survey for Unrecognized Carbon-Enhanced Metal-Poor Stars in the Galaxy Resumo: Carbon Enhanced Metal-Poor (CEMP) stars are of great astrophysical interest for a host of reasons, and the need for good quality statistics on these peculiar objects is rapidly increasing. A list of previously unidentified CEMP stars from the Hamburg/ESO prism survey has been compiled, based on the strength of a new extended CH G-band index. Follow-up spectroscopy was obtained with SOAR and Gemini, and results show that the majority of candidates possess prominent carbon features at 4300A. We propose to acquire additional spectroscopic data for this sample, using GOODMAN observations, combined with previous and ongoing projects on GEMINI and SOAR. This will enable the identification of a relevant number of new CEMP stars, which includes representatives of the inner- and outer-halo populations. Metallicities and carbon abundances for such stars will serve as probes of the stellar populations in the Galaxy and its nearby satellites. We are using this form to request both 40h in remote mode and also 24h of bad weather (queue mode), which is appropriate to observe our brighter targets. |
