Science with the LSST: A Brazilian/US Joint Workshop second Circular

Dear Participant, The Science with the LSST: A Brazilian/US Joint Workshop is coming up and in this second circular we want to give you the latest news and updated information so that we all have a fruitful and enjoyable event.

This circular includes some practical information on (1) program; (2) transportation to Hotel; (3) banking and currency; (4) contacts; (5) per diem payment; (6) registration desk; (7) welcome reception.

(1) Program

(2) Transportation to Orotour Garden Hotel
Important: Due Brazilian transportation agency regulations, to use the workshop transport is necessary to inform us the number of an ID document. The company policy prohibits the entry of passengers on buses without this information. Those who did not report the number, please do so by MARCH 27, next Tuesday, so there is no risk of being unable to use the transport.

(a) Rio de Janeiro/Campos do Jordão/Rio de Janeiro: In Rio de Janeiro a micro-bus of "Executive Vans " will depart at 11h on April 1st from the Observatório Nacional to the Orotour Garden Hotel. The return transportation is scheduled to leave the hotel at 14h on April 4th with destination to ON. Dr. Eduardo Telles (ON-BR, phone: (21)9658-8852) is in charge of coordinating the departure from Rio. He and the bus driver will have the passenger list in hand. Please contact Eduardo Telles in case of any unforeseen event or delay.

(b) São Paulo/Campos do Jordão/São Paulo In São Paulo a bus of "Line Tour" will depart on April 1st, at 11 am (NEW SCHEDULE), in front of the Latin America Memorial, located next to the metro Barra Funda, to the International Airport of Guarulhos and after to the workshop venue. Vinicius Placco (IAG / USP – BR, phone: 11-9126-2976) is in charge of coordinating the departure from São Paulo.

The departure time of this bus from the airport to the Orotour Garden Hotel will be at 13h. For participants arriving by airplane, the meeting point is in front of Balloon Café, located in the ground (landing) floor of Terminal 2, wing C.

Gislene Yoko (INCT-A-BR) will coordinate the gathering of all people for taking the bus. Please contact Gislene Yoko (phone: 11-9280-1816) in case of any unforeseen event or delays in flights.

We will also inform soon transportation tips for those not using our transport.

(3) Banking and Currency
We advise people from abroad arriving at Guarulhos airport to exchange money for the Brazilian currency, Real, at the airport.

The banks below are situated at the ground (landing) floor:

BANCO SAFRA: Passenger Terminal 2 - wing C
BANCO SANTANDER: Passenger Terminal 1 - wing A.

Orotour Garden Hotel accepts Visa, Mastercard e American Express. Exchange at the Hotel or Campos do Jordão is possible but the rates are worse than the ones at airport.

(5) Per diem payment
We ask to foreigners participants to send us (lsst_workshop@lna.br) as soon as possible a copy of your passport and e-ticket so we can arrange the payment of daily.

(6) Registration Desk
The secretary of the meeting will open the registration on Sunday, Apr 1st , from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm and on Monday, Apr 2nd, from 8:00 am to 9:00 am in order to distribute the registration package.

A registration fee of R$ 50.00 will be charged to all participants and must be paid in cash at the conference registration desk at the beginning of the event. Credit cards, personal checks and traveler's checks are not accepted. Those who already send the registration fee by
bank check please disregard this item.

Check out – Wednesday, Apr 4th, until 2:00 pm. Lunch is included.

(7) Welcome Reception and Meals
The Welcome Cocktail on Sunday, April 1st, will be served between 20h and 21h. The dinner will be served from 21h to 23h. We will be very happy if everybody can participate in this moment of fraternization.

For those not staying at the Orotour Garden Hotel but intends to attend the cocktail, we remind that an extra fee of R$ 9.00 (nine Reais) per person will be charged and must be paid at the hotel reception.

Participants who are not guests and wish to have meals (lunch and/or dinner) at the Orotour Garden Hotel are requested to pay R$ 30.00 (thirty reais) per meal at the hotel reception.

Travel Information

How to arrive in Campos do Jordão - getting to the Orotur Hotel:
The best way to get to Campos do Jordão is to fly to the Guarulhos International Airport (GRU), located about 120 km away from CdJ: Infraero Airports or Guarulhos International Airport - GRU.

Using the Transportation Provided by the LOC:

The organizing committee will provide transportation for the participants to the Orotur Hotel from the International Airport of Guarulhos and from the city of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

To confirm the use of this transportation : please inform an identification document (RG or CPF number for Brazilians, or passport number for foreigners) and also information about your flight arrival/departure time, company, flight number), until March 27 to lsst_workshop(at)lna.br

Visa Information

The citizens of the following countries are visa exempted  to enter in Brazil: Andorra, Argentina, Austria, Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, El Salvador, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Guyana, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macau, Malaysia, Monaco, Morocco, Namibia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, SMO of Malta, Spain, Suriname, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, Tunisia, Turkey, United Kingdom, Uruguay, Vatican, Venezuela. If you are exempted, please be sure that your passport is valid for more than 6 months, and check if you need vaccination. All exemptions are valid for a stay up to 90 days.

US citizens need visa to enter to Brazil. Moreover, for the citizens of the countries not listed above, a visa need to be requested in a Brazilian Consulate in order to attend the meeting. Letters of invitation to apply for the visa (if required by the consulate) will be provided upon request to lsst_workshop(at)lna.br .
 
Yellow fever vaccination (10 days before traveling) is recommended if you want to include in your trip a visit to the following states: Acre, Amazonas, Amapá. Macapá, Roraima, Rondônia, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí, Bahia, Minas Gerais, Espirito Santo, São Paulo, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, Goiás e Distrito Federal. The vaccine protects you for 10 years.
